Hawaiian Airlines, the flagship airline of the state of Hawaii, engages Code3 to provide creative and social media strategy on an ongoing basis. Our work has included annual content planning, campaign ideation, influencer program strategy, TikTok launch recommendations, content development, trend spotting, and AR filter development.
In the midst of the Covid-19 pandemic, Hawaii closed its doors to non-residents. Hawaiian Airlines' business changed significantly, as did its focus on social media. The brand tasked Code3 with helping them find a way to celebrate May Day and Lei Day when they couldn’t fly to Hawaii to do so.

Consumers were feeling disconnected, disappointed by canceled trips, and stuck at home. Code3 saw an opportunity in culture and through social listening to use technology to connect people to a moment of escape, happiness, and one another.
Code3 wanted to create a way for people around the world to virtually experience Island life and celebrate Lei Day in a shareable way. Instagram AR filter use was gaining popularity and provided an experiential platform to bring the idea to life.
Code3 used Spark AR to develop custom Effects for Facebook and Instagram, allowing the public to spread and share aloha. We worked closely with the Hawaiian Airlines team to ensure the Effects authentically represented traditional leis and launched accordingly. Through a launch video and coordinated promotion efforts, we saw the Effect used worldwide. It continues to be leveraged today!

Social media content demands are increasing and trends change quickly. With the rise of meme culture, TikTok audio trends, and Instagram Reels, brands like Hawaiian Airlines need to create timely, trend-forward content that captures today’s consumers and works with the algorithms.
